Poros Island is made up of two islands joined by a small bridge over a narrow canal. The larger island is Kalavria, while the smaller island, Sferia, is home to Poros Town.
Poros Town is the main shopping and harbour area, approximately 2.5 km from Askeli. It features traditional tavernas overlooking the channel to Galatas on the mainland, small shops along narrow streets, banks, a post office and a small local museum.
Askeli is known for one of the best beaches on Poros, offering water sports, beach volleyball, tavernas and cafés along the seafront. There is also a well-stocked supermarket, bakery, and bike, moped and quad bike hire.
Poros offers many quiet bays and beaches where you can relax, swim and enjoy the clear, calm waters.
Just a short ferry crossing from Poros, Galatas is a traditional working village with a very different atmosphere from the island. Car ferries run every 30 minutes and water taxis take just 3 minutes to cross.
Along the seafront you’ll find tavernas and cafés, while a coastal walk leads to Lemonodasos, famous for its lemon groves and scenic views over the Saronic Gulf.
Behind Galatas, the Aderes Mountain offers breathtaking viewpoints across Poros, Aegina, Hydra and the Attica coastline. Transport is recommended to reach the summit.
